Who We Are

Who exactly makes up the Salybia Mission Project? Everyone from students, nurses, doctors, and professors. As a student-run organization, we pride ourselves in the various positions and responsibilities we hold in order to help coordinate our activities and carry out our mission.

The Medical Team

The backbone of The Salybia Mission Project lies in the people that provide real care to real people. Physicians, nurses, and medical student volunteers operate our weekend clinics and health fairs. These are the people are instrumental in ensuring our services to the Carib community.

Dr. Worrel Sanford

Trained in both Cuba and the United States, Dr. Worrel Sanford is a Carib himself and a Dominican-licensed dermatologist. Working weekdays in Roseau in his practice and giving his time on given weekends for SMP clinics, Dr. Sanford is the Medical Director of the organization.

In 2002, while serving as a temporary professor at Ross University School of Medicine, Dr. Sanford challenged a group of students to conduct a clinic trip to the underserved Carib Territory. From this simple gesture was borne the idea of the Salybia Mission Project. He continues to provide care to the people of the community, as well as clinical exposure and invaluable education to medical students.

His tireless efforts inspire the student volunteers to do the work they do, and he is greatly appreciated and applauded.

The Executive Committee is composed of the Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer of the organization.
