Poker Tournament

On October 8, 2009 thirteen members of the Ross community participated in Salybia's first ever Poker Night Fundraiser. The night was full of Texas Hold 'em poker, music, and laughter in a relaxed atmosphere where experienced and beginner players alike shared the tables and enjoyed escaping from the pressures of medical school for an evening. Play began a little after 7 PM with two tables full of players featuring volunteer dealers who gave the game an authentic tournament feel.

The drama inherent to a poker tournament was played out over the next two hours. While the early hands had everyone feeling easy, as the blinds increased and the chip stacks grew smaller, the intensity of the evening increased with every new round. In the end, the game-winning moment occurred with three players left when Vivian Tran knocked out the 3rd place finisher and left 2nd place Rodney Kerns with a single $5 chip left. Vivian finished off her victory on the following hand to become the winning champion of the first ever Salybia Poker Night Fundraiser. Vivian and Rodney donated their prize winnings back to Salybia, and those donations along with the registration fees collected raised 650 EC$ for Salybia's charitable efforts in the Carib Territory!

Congratulations to Vivian for winning the event and a special thanks to all the participants for being such good sports and to the volunteer dealers for really helping make the night a huge success.
